Student Horizons makes overseas school trips accessible to all students
For many schools across New Zealand and Australia the opportunity of participating in an overseas school trip would be an impossible cost to bear.
But thanks to Student Horizons pioneering new initiative, businesses across New Zealand and Australia are now able to invest in youth development while building brand awareness.
Educational travel specialists Student Horizons have developed an exclusive ‘Community Partnerships Programme’, which gives all students across the country the opportunity to benefit from life changing experiential learning opportunities.
The programme, which is the only one of its kind in the Educational Travel sector, offers students access to professional fundraising guidance from a leading, international Fundraising Consultancy; exclusive rebate opportunities with global businesses; free, professionally designed marketing materials and a range of discounted products and services only available to Student Horizons’ groups. Moreover students can benefit from a foot in the door with potential future employers.
“Student Horizons believes that a mixture of curriculum based and non curriculum based learning programmes overseas, provide a critical pillar in a students education” says Jamie Wansey, Managing Director of Student Horizons. Our philosophy is for students to challenge, discover and achieve. Thanks to our partners in the business community we can offer all students the opportunity to develop their awareness of the world and we hope by doing this that we will help to lift their aspirations and enhance their lives.”
Not only does the programme offer students the opportunity to develop life skills and enhance their future career prospects, but it also provides the wider business community an original opportunity to access their target market, build brand awareness and meet their CSR goals.
“We view our partnership with Student Horizons not only as a way to enhance brand awareness, but as an alignment of culture and values” says Maureen Startup, Managing Director of The Village Press. “We are investing in self development for the next generation and building a stronger future for New Zealand."
One such school to benefit from the Community Partnerships Programme is Wairoa College, whose Rugby Academy is undertaking a once in a lifetime, ambitious European tour in 2015 with the help of Student Horizons. Coinciding with the Rugby World Cup, 32 boys of Maori and Pacific decent, will be playing rugby teams across the UK, Ireland, France and Belgium, staying with local families, visiting cultural and heritage sites including battlefields of Passchendaele and Ypres.
For Wairoa, like many low decile schools, there’s the challenge of working towards such an ambitious goal even before they’ve left the country, for the majority of these boys have not yet left their own region or the North Island let alone New Zealand.  “For many of the boys the biggest challenge ahead, is for them to believe that nothing is impossible” says JJ Solomon, Coach at Wairoa’s Rugby Academy “they have a mammoth fundraising effort ahead, as well as maintaining attitude, behaviour and academics at school, and with commitment to training and one another as a team they must prove themselves worthy both on and off the field. This tour is an amazing motivator and a great incentive for all 32 boys.”
While Rugby is the main focus there is a much greater goal of making a lasting impact on the boys’ lives and on the Wairoa community as a whole. “The expertise and the networks that Student Horizons have been able to provide have been invaluable to us” says James Baty Wairoa College Board of Trustees Chairman.
Businesses currently involved in the Community Partnerships Programme include; The Village Press, Cathedral Cove Naturals, Diamond Photo, Compton Fundraising, Cube Print, Under Armour and Out Wear.

Bryce John says ...
Yes, this news made me so happy in 2014! I don’t get to hear news like this these days and it's sad. The people who worked at the site that time were quite pleased with this decision by the Student Horizons, too.
