The St Joseph’s Nudgee College Under 15s rugby tour to Fiji was a huge success. For most of the 40 boys, this was their first school tour and they were buzzing with excitement. The boys travelled with two teams winning five out of their six games on tour, putting them in good mind frame leading in to their rugby season.
The boys embraced the electric Fijian style of play – fast paced and always looking to keep the ball alive; however, the Nudgee skill and structure shone through. After each game, the boys from both countries were able to spend time together, welcoming the Fijian culture through music. The highlight of the tour was meeting and singing with the Olympic gold medal Fiji Rugby 7s team after a game against Nabua Secondary College. The smile on everyone’s faces who could hear the group singing was priceless—it was an experience the students from Nudgee will never forget.
The boys also embraced the Fijian culture by staying overnight in a traditional village. This was a real eye-opener, and it gave the students a greater understanding of Fijian culture, community values and way of life.
Off the field, the jet boat ride in Sigatoka and the island day trip were the two biggest highlights!
Thank you to the Nudgee rugby boys for trusting Student Horizons on your second tour. We can’t wait to take you to the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019!
